In March 1997, thirty-nine members of the Heaven’s Gate cult committed suicide in a San Diego area mansion. Their weird religion believed that human bodies were just temporary vessels for the soul, and that communal suicide would allow them to attain “the Next Level”. They also believed that a UFO was trailing behind Comet Hale-Bopp, and that their disembodied souls could hook up with the aliens.
This might seem an unpromising basis for a PORN PARODY. Perhaps a tad tasteless. But someone gave it a try, and the result was Heaven’s Anal Gateway.
According to one review, the film “centers on a Heaven’s Gate-type cult led by rotund head honcho Dave Cummings. He preaches a peculiar brand of salvation, one that emphasizes anal sex as the proper way to enter the eternal kingdom.” That sounds more plausible (and fun) than the real cult’s belief system. The review concludes, “Whatever your take on the religious aspects of the flick, there’s no denying that it’s chock full of some of the steamiest back door boffing of the year.”
The box cover art evokes the real Heaven’s Gate’s cheesy rainbow sci-fi logo and bald, creepy messiah Marshall Applewhite.
